One house, two people and a fresh start. How we combined the best of my stuff with the best of his stuff, and filled many of the remaining spaces with Craigslist finds.
My Philosophy
Ok, so I love chocolate and hate waste. You need to know this about me right up front.
If I can use some scrap of something that I already have, I will. Of course, this has sometimes worked against me when I tried a little too hard to force that square peg into the proverbial round hole just so I wouldn't have to put on presentable clothes and leave the house to go to the hardware store. But when I am able to find the perfect doodad or whatzit in my stash of stuff that has been patiently waiting for its moment to shine, well, that's a happy moment for me.
And as for paint, I have a boatload of it left over from projects and donations from friends (because they know I'll find a use for it). And gosh darn it, I am GOOD at mixing colors so I will always try to scavenge in my stash of colors and attempt a little pigment mixology for the purpose of painting a chair or table before I'll buy another quart of paint.
All of this dovetails nicely with Craigslist. There is so much wonderful, wacky, tacky stuff posted out there just waiting for a new home and purpose. Why do I love CL so much? It's the thrill of the hunt, the knowledge I may be keeping something out of the landfill, and scoring a bargain all in one. The ultimate shopping trifecta.
So, let's sum up...my philosophy is to not waste resources, be creative, and enjoy the process…and to eat good chocolate.
